SAINTS WOMEN OPEN SWIM SEASON BEATING CLARKSON


Saint's swimmer Abby Lynch a St. Lawrence Central Graduate swims her way to the 100M butterfly. The St. Lawrence men’s and women’s swim teams won their first meet of the season against North Country rival Clarkson. Three swimmers compete just fractions of a second apart in the backstroke at the North Country Invitational at Potsdam.

November 17: Oneonta State topped all competitors in the 2008 North Country Invitational swim meet at SUNY Potsdam. The red Dragon women finished with a score of 667 points while the men tallied 534 to top all opponents. Potsdam’s women finished second with 450 points followed by Clarkson with 386. The Buffalo State women were fourth with 239 points while Cazenovia was fifth with a score of 107. Buff State’s men were second with 481 points and the Clarkson men were third with 439. The Potsdam men held fourth place with 356 while Caz was last with 4 points for their men’s team. Danielle Ulanowski led the Oneonta women with three first place finishes as she swam the 200 Yard IM in 2:23.95 and joined both the winning 400 Yard Medley Relay team with a time of 4:20.55 and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:46.29. Pete Millspaugh paced the Oneonta men with a first place in the men’s 200 Yard backstroke in 2:03.71, as well as, the 100 Yard Backstroke while also joining the winning 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:48.59. Potsdam’s men picked up four first place finishes as Nathan Larowe scored 303.60 points to top the 1-Meter dive and 309.95 to win the 3-Meter event. Alex Rounds won the 100 Yard Breastroke with a time of 1:03.84 and also the 200 Yard Breastroke in 2:23.67. The men also won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:33.25. Sarah Gutenmann led the Lady Bears with a winning time of 19:45.31 in the 1650 Yard Freestyle and 5:42.19 in the 500 Yard Freestyle.

November 16: At the end of the first day of the 2008 North Country Invitational swim meet at SUNY Potsdam, Oneonta State topped all competitors with a women’s score of 351 points and a men’s tally of 255. The second and final day of competition will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. Potsdam’s women were in second place with 238 points followed by Clarkson with 218. The Buffalo State women were fourth with 123 points while Cazenovia brought up the rear with 45 points for the fifth position. Buffalo’s men were second with 227 points with Clarkson was again third with 224. The Potsdam men held fourth place with 151 while Caz was last with only one point for their men’s team. Danielle Ulanowski led the Oneonta women with three first place finishes as she swam the 200 Yard IM in 2:23.95 and joined both the winning 400 Yard Medley Relay team with a time of 4:20.55 and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:46.29.
