CANTON WINS ITHACA TITLE ON 2 LATE GOALS
by Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet

It was a stunning finish with a pair of late Christmas presents for the Canton Golden Bears:  Luke Seymour scored two goals in the last 38.1 seconds of the game -- including the game winner with just two ticks on the clock in a shocking comeback over McQuaid of Rochester in the title game of the 2005 Ithaca Christmas Tournament on Wednesday.  The Bears were smoked for three unanswered first-period goals, but netminder Joe Spaddaccini all but closed the door on McQuaid, stopping nine of the ten shots he faced in the final two periods. Shane Laurie and Ross Logan keyed the the setup on Seymour's first goal that tied the game with just 38.1 seconds to play, tying the game at 4-4.  Then with overtime looming, Seymour tipped a loose puck off the back of McQuaid goalie Connor Knapp for the electrifying game and tournament winner with 0:02 on the clock.  Seymour finished with two crucial goals and one assist.  Zach Lawrence and Kyle Flanagan also scored.

SHAMROCKS EDGE MALONE IN THRILLER
by Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet

The crowd at Salmon River Central for the game of two unbeatens -- the Shamrocks and Franklin Academy Huskies -- were treated to a fast-paced thriller that went down to the final seconds on Tuesday.  The Huskies notched the first goal and led 1-0 after the first period after captain Jarrid Fleury wristed a low shot past Salmon River netminder Justin Delormier.  But the Shamrocks struck with lightning speed in the second period, rapping three markers that provided the margin of victory. Shamrocks' captain Dwight Bero persisted on the power play, netting the tying goal at 4:54.  Less than four minutes later, Jarrett Jacobs blasted a slapshot through a crowd.  Less than three minutes later, Aundray David delivered a perfect centering pass that Corey Thomas converted to make it 3-1.  Malone's Ryan Brown gave the Huskies a lift with a point-blank shot with 0:42 remaining in the second period to make it 3-2.  Salmon River's final goal came into an empty net with 0:07 remaining in the game.  Malone goalie Chad LeClerc was spectacular against a barrage in net, steering away 45 of 48 shots he faced. Ogdensburg’s Jake Morley looks to cut back towards the middle to get by the Norwood-Norfolk defenseman.  Morley and Mike Morrow each notched hat tricks in the Blue Devils' 8-1 win at the Golden Dome. Morrow also collected three assists, while Morley had two helpers. Adam Gilman and Tyler Richards ech added a goal.  Willie Chmurovic registered the Flyers' lone goal.

MARC PLANTE'S FOUR POINTS LEADS SALMON RIVER OVER INDIAN RIVER

Salmon River's Aundray David (24) tires to tuck the puck in the corner behind a spread-eagle stop by the Indian River goalie.

Sticks are up in front of the net as players jockey for position in front of Salmon River goaltender Justin Delormier (1).  In the Shamrocks' home opener, trailing 2-1 going into the third, Mac Plante tied the game with his second goal of the night and finished with two more assists to close out a 5-2 win. Shane Avery contributed a goal and three assists, while Wallace Thompson added a goal and two assists. (Bob LaRue photos)

BOGART'S BREAKAWAY GOAL LIFTS GHOSTS PAST LUMBERJACKS IN O.T.

By Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet
The Alexandria Bay Purple Ghosts picked up their first win of the young season in a dramatic 3-2 win over the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks.  Josh Thomson hit Skyler Bogart on the fly for a breakaway to net the game winner with 1:20 remaining in overtime.  Bogart weighed in on all three A. Bay goals, netting two markers and an assist. Brandon Hollis notched the other goal. The Ghosts had to fight back from a 2-0 deficit, after Tupper Lake’s Jesse Kriwox pocketed two tallies in the first period. But goalie Robert Fountain shut the door on the Jacks the rest of the way for the win.
