Massena’s Taylor Bacon (20) made the stretch at first base to get the runner by just a step.  The game ended in the bottom of the seventh when Marci Silver led off with a single.  Pinch runner Kayla Dennis tested the outfield arms by trying to advance from first to third a shallow basehit.  Her gamble paid off when the ball sailed past third base and off catcher Marybeth Davis who tried desperately to flag the ball before it trickled off her and into the Raider dugout to end the game.

HEUVELTON'S DONNELLY & LEONARD FIRE BACK-TO-BACK NO-HITTERS

By Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet
It's a rare treat to see a pitcher thrown no-hitter, but even more rare is when a team has two pitchers who both throw back-to-back no-hit shutouts in the same doubleheader!  And Heuvelton's Kara Leonard came within a walk of hurling a perfect game in the nightcap as the Bulldogs beat Morristown 10-0. Casey Donnelly hurled a no hitter and struck out 12 as Heuvelton won the opener 15-0.  Heather Johnson led the Heuvelton hitting attack with three RBIs over the two games.  Heuvelton improved to 4-2 in league play, 5-3 overall.  Morristown dropped to 1-5, 1-6 overall.

MASSENA'S BIERS FIRES NO-HITTER IN 9-1 WIN OVER GOUVERNEUR

By Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet

Hermon-DeKalb’s Kaylee O’Donnell rounds third base headed for home to score a run in the first inning.  The Demons only other run came in the third.  Marissa Bacon had two of the Demons' three hits and drove in a run.

Hammond pitcher Jessica Meashaw delivered a solid three-hit performance giving up one run and three hits.  She also got defensive help in gunning down two Bulldog runners and good glove work, particularly with great grabs at first and second.

Heuvelton's Casey Fobare (21) gets only piece of the pitch, as most Bulldog batters were kept off-stride by Measheaw's change of speed and consistent pitching to the strike zone.

(LaRue photos)  Game Gallery

Tupper Lake's lone run came in the fourth inning on a close play at the plate when Amber Lawyer slid under the throw and tag.

COLTS COMEBACK IN 6TH INNING TO OVERTAKE P-H PANTHERS IN OPENER

Colton-Pierrepont’s Emily Watson gets tagged out on a close play at the plate by the Parishville-Hopkinton catcher following a passed ball.  The Lady Colts rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning, then fended off the Panthers in the bottom of the frame and 7th to post a 7-4 win in the Section's first league game of the season.  (Eric Foote photo)  Game Gallery

Parishville-Hopkinton’s Stephanie Cox (3) gets a piece of the pitch from Colts' pitcher Emily Watson but fouls it off to the backstop.  After a shaky first two innings giving up three runs, Emily Watson settled down to fire a six-hitter, striking out eight.

Parishville-Hopkinton pitcher Stephanie Gushlaw fielded the squibber and threw out the Colton-Pierrepont runner out at first base.  Gushlaw struck out four batters and walked five in taking the loss for the Panthers (0-1, 0-2 overall).  After trailing 3-0 through the first four inning, the Colts (1-0) mounted a two-run burst in the fifth inning and a five-run rally in the sixth to capture the win.  The Panthers scratched for a run in the last of the sixth, but were unable to mount a comeback against Watson.
