Wildcats Swim To 2nd Straight WIN vs. Beavers

Swimmers from Gouverneur and Beaver River take their marks on the starting grid to begin the 200-yard freestyle. The Beavers won the first three events, but Gouverneur’s Luke Dunkelberg captured the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, Mark Dunkelberg won the 100 freestyle and both led Gouverneur to a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, to propel the Wildcats to an 85-77 win over Beaver River. While the Beavers took more first place finishes, Gouverneur gathered enough points in the second, third and fourth positions to pull out the narrow win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Wildcat Swimmers Win 81-71 Opener vs. South Lewis


Gouverneur swimmers Alex Deon and Spencer Knowles, along with two South Lewis swimmers Kevin Beltosky and Jon Hirschey, battle for the lead just after the opening dive in the 200-meter freestyle. Gouverneur swimmer Alex Deon leads South Lewis’ Kevin Beltosky coming into the homestretch of the 200m freestyle event. The Wildcats opened their season with an 81-71 comeback victory over the Falcons. Leading the Wildcats were Luke Dunkelberg in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 backstroke; Mark Dunkelberg in a thrilling win in the 100-meter freestyle by just five-hundredth of a second over South Lewis’ Nathan DeSantis. Gouverneur won the 200-meter freestyle. South Lewis gained an early 12-point lead with a sweep in the 200 medley relay and captured the 400-meter freestyle relay. South Lewis’ Adam Wright won the 200-meter IM and 100-meter breaststroke, Pat Pominville captured the 100M butterfly and the 100-meter backstroke, Kevin Beltoski in the 500-meter freestyle.

Gouverneur Edges Malone; Beat Regular Season Mark


The Wildcats’ Alex Deon (blue) dives into the pool alongside other swimmers from Malone and Gouverneur to begin the 500-yard Freestyle. Plattsburgh Races Malone in Tuesday SWIM Meet 76-18


Malone (right) and Plattsburgh swimmers are neck-and-neck in the home stretch of the opening event. The Plattsburgh Hornets completed a dominating performance over the Malone Huskies 76-18 on Malone’s Senior Night event. The Huskies wore pink swim caps for in honor of Cancer Awareness Month.  Meet Gallery

Gouverneur Swims To 3rd Meet Victory vs. Carthage


Gouverneur’s Luke Dunkelberg (gold) leads a Carthage swimmer in the opening stretch of the 100-yard Backstroke. The Gouverneur Wildcats captured their third league meet of the season and improved to 3-5, with a 93-63 home victory over the Carthage Comets. Gouverneur captured all but three first-place finishes. Wildcat senior Luke Dunkelberg won the 50 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and was part of two winning relays. His brother Mark put away the 100 freestyle and also swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Alex Deon delivered wins in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Nick Lewis won the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 200 medley relay. Spencer Knowles participated in two winning relays, while Ben Sitts was involved in one winning relay. Watertown Swims Past Gouverneur Boys 106-59


Gouverneur’s Luke Dunkelberg (left) and Watertown’s Neal Ruparelia battle side-by-side off the starting block in the 50-yard freestyle. Ruparelia got a good push in the second half of the race to win by 18 seconds. The Cyclones swam to a road win over the Wildcats 106-59 in Monday’s meet.

Gouverneur’s Mark Dunkelberg dives in to begin his portion of the 400-yard relay. The Watertown trio of Michael Netto, Neal Ruparelia and Jacob Roux swam to victories in two individual events, while leading the Cyclones to a first-place finish in a relay event to pace Watertown to a 106-59 win. Gouverneur won one event, while racking up most of their points on second-place finishes. The Wildcat team of Luke and Mark Dunkelberg, Spencer Knowles and Alex Deon captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.47, by 2.8 seconds. The Cyclones remained undefeated at 4-0.
