FOUR LOCAL BOYS SWIM RECORDS SET AT STATE MEET

Canton-Potsdam-Lisbon and Gouverneur boys teams set four school or Section X records while competing in the preliminary rounds at the New York State Boys Swimming Championships on Friday.  Strong showings came from Canton's Paul Braun finished 43rd in the statewith a time 48.85 in the 100 freestyle, setting both a new school and Section X record.  Teammate Leon Lufkin (53rd) swam the backstroke in 1:05.18, also a new school record.  Gouverneur's Anthony Dejesus (68th) set a new school record in the 100 butterfly at 57.13.

canton-POTSDAM-LISBON wins BOYS SWIMMING TITLE


The combined Canton-Potsdam-Lisbon team captured the first-ever boys Section X swim championship with 280 points, followed by Gouverneur 2nd, Malone 3rd and Edwards-Knox fourth.  Plattsburgh won the Section VII title at the same meet.  Canton's Paul Braun broke a 38-yard record in the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.88 seconds.  Braun captured the 50-yard also captured freestyle. Canton won the 200-yard medley relay with team Braun, Leon Lufkin, Jacob Francon and Cooper Stuntz. Lufkin also won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke   Gouverneur's Anthony DeJesus topped the 200-yard IM and 100 butterfly. Plattsburgh's Luke Moore won the 200 freestyle, Rafeal Kowal took first in the 100 backstroke.  The Hornets won the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay. (Sam Wangerin photo) Meet Gallery

Canton swimmer races in the home stretch toward the finish of the 100-yard freestyle event.  Canton-Potsdam’s new boys swim team swam its first-ever meet today, topping the leader board with 73 points, edging Lowville with 71 and Gouverneur 23 in the tri-meet. Canton-Potsdam’s Cooper Stuntz won the 200 and 500 freestyle, while Paul Braun captured the 100 free and 200 individual medley led the way. Lowville won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, McManus captured the 100 backstroke, while Reader won the 100 breaststroke and Rivers the 100 butterfly. Anthony DeJesus won the 50 freestyle for Gouverneur’s lone first-place finish.

CANTON WINS 4TH STRAIGHT,  SWEEPING QUAD-MEET


Swimmers from Malone, Canton and AuSable Valley dive from the starting block in Malone's four-way meet. Canton-Potsdam swimmer Leon Lufkin pulls ahead in the 100 breaststroke and went on to win the event.  Lufkin also won the 100 butterfly.  Canton-Potsdam's Paul Braun won the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Teammate Jake Francon took first place in the 100 freestyle.  Canton-Potsdam also won the 200 and 400 freestyle races to capture their fourth straight meet, in their inaugural season.  For AuSable Valley, Trevor Gravelle won the 200 free, Dalton Ess topped the 50 free and David Butler took first in the 500 free.  AuSable won the 200 medley relay.Daulton Scharf (100 fly)and Dawson Scharf (100 free) led the Huskies with second-place finishes.

CANTON-POTSDAM PULLS out VS. MALONE IN FINAL 3 EVENTS

A Canton swimmer paces through the waves in the home stretch of the 200-yard individual medley.  Paul Braun won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Cooper Stuntz captured the 200 individual and the 500 free to lead C-P.  Also finishing first were Jake Francom in the 200 free and Kobe Cooper in the 100 breaststroke event.  Canton-Potsdam also won the 400 freestyle relay.  Malone captured the other two relays - the 200 medley and the 200 free relay.  Scharf won both the 50 free and the 100 butterfly.
