Gouverneur’s Alex Deon (near lane) narrowly beats Watertown’s Nathan Lachenware to the finish of the 500-yard freestyle.  Joey Ongkingco and Andrew Marilley each captured four events for the Cyclones. Watertown swept the meet, while Beaver River beat out Gouverneur. Ongkingco won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while participating in the winning 200 free relay. Marilley took first place in the 100 backstroke, 200 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay. Both were part of the win in the 200 medley relay. Zach Irish captured the 100 butterfly for Beaver River. In the double-dual vs. Beaver River, Mark Dunkelberg led Gouverneur with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while participating in a first-place finish in a winning 200 freestyle.

Gouverneur's Mark Dunkelberg (near lane) and South Jeff's Nate Tyler swimmer battle side by side to begin the 500-Yard freestyle.  Four South Jeff swimmers captured wins in three events to anchor a 97-63 Spartans’ win at Gouverneur. Addison Roberts, Liam Mallan, Nick Snyder and Garrett Strough were all part of the winning 200-yard medley relay and 200 free relay. Roberts also won the 200 freestyle, while Mallan captured the 100 backstroke, Snyder topped the 100 free and Strough won the 100 butterfly. Gouverneur was led by Mark Dunkelburg who pulled away in the final four laps to win the 500 freestyle, while Ben Sitts won the 100 breaststroke. South Jeff improved to 3-, while Gouverneur slipped to 1-1.

Gouverneur’s Maddison McIntosh (outer) and South Lewis’ Patrick Pominville (inner) dive into the pool to the pool to begin the meet.  Pominville won the 100 backstroke for South Lewis.A trio of Wildcat swimmers – Mark Dunkelberg, Alex Deon and Ben Sitts – each won two individual events and swam on relay teams that produced first-place finishes and personal bests in Gouverneur’s 72-56 win. Dunkelberg took the 200 and 500 freestyles, which included a personal best of 2:05.59 in the 200 free. Deon won the 50 free and 100 butterfly, which included a personal best in the fly at 1:16.19. Sitts captured the 200 IM with his best time at 2:49.55 and 100 breaststroke best at 1:16.70. Sitts, Deon, Shippee-Monica, Dunkelberg also set a personal best in the 200 free relay at 1:45.83.

Warriors pull away from Wildcats,huskies in tri meet

Gouverneur’s Mark Dunkelberg (far lane) edges out Indian River’s (inner lane) to win the 500-yard freestyle.  Indian River’s Cole Coutermarsh, Dennis Zhou and Ty Godin all won three races to power the Warriors to wins of 92-63 over Gouverneur and 88-77 over Malone in Monday’s tri-meet at Gouverneur. Malone beat Gouverneur 98-68. Coutermarsh won the 100-yard backstroke and 500-freestyle, before teaming up with Zhou and Godin to capture the 200 medley relay. Zhou won the 200 individual medley and Godin swam to victory in the 50 freestyle. Zhou and Godin were also part fo the 200 freestyle relay. Mark Dunkleberg won the 200 and 500 freestyles to lead Gouverneur. Malone was led by Ryan Tober who won the 100 butterfly and participated in the winning 400 freestyle relay.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mark Dunkelberg, Ben Sitts, Alex Deon and Matt Shippie-Monica placed fifth overall with a time of 1:26.
