CANTON WINS 2012 SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Canton Golden Bears topped the field of 11 teams with 326 points to capture their first swimming crown since 2006, while Massena finished second at 285 and Ogdensburg third at 194 points to round out the frontrunners. For the Red Raiders, Laura Hartman swam to victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Massena also won the 200 freestyle relay. Susie Morrow led Ogdensburg with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Kenzie Wilson won the 100 individual freestyle for the Malone Huskies.

The dive-in to begin one of the 200 freestyle heats.  Canton’s Dasha Lapoint captured four wins: the individual 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly while participating in winning team relays in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle events to lead the Golden Bears to the 2012 Section X Girls Swimming Championship at SUNY Potsdam. Canton’s Angelina Domena also provided three wins, swimming to a victory in the 500 freestyle and gold medals in two winning relays.

Massena Improves To 7-1, Swimming Past Potsdam


In the butterfly event, a Massena swimmer leads by a half length in the battle for the lead against a Potsdam swimmer. The Massena Red Raiders improved to 7-1, one game behind Canton, with a 59-30 win over the Potsdam Sandstoners during Tuesday's event. Swimmers from Massena (red) and Potsdam (orange) dive quickly to start the 100 meters.  The Massena Red Raiders improved to 7-1 in Division I with a 59-30 win over the Potsdam Sandstoners.  Savannah Hayes posted a pair of wins – in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events to lead the Raiders.

Malone Outswims Edwards-Knox in 89-59 Pool Victory


Swimmers from Edwards-Knox and Malone dive into the pool to compete in one of eleven races in Tuesday's meet in Russell. The Malone Huskies(6-4-1) clinched a lock on second place in Section X's Division II with an 89-59 swimming victory over the third-place Cougars who slipped to 3-8-0. 

Swimmers from Malone and Edwards-Knox compete in one of the freestyle events. The Malone Huskies were led by Isabella Lucia’s two event victories in the overall win. Lucia captured first place in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

Larries Close in On Division Crown Beating Cougars


Swimmers from St. Lawrence Central and Edwards-Knox compete in the 100 meter butterfly. The Larries defeated the Cougars 60-33 to move closer to the Division II regular-season crown. St. Lawrence Central and Edwards-Knox swimmers dive into the pool to start a relay event.  For St. Lawrence Central, Alex Craft won the 100-meter backstroke, while Hailey Arquiett sped to a first-place finished in the 50-meter freestyle. Both girls swam on the winning 200 medley and a freestyle relay to propel the Larries to the win. The Cougars were led by two-event winner Cheyenne Schwartfigure who captured the 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle.

Larries Open SWIM Season beating Potsdam 109-61


A Potsdam swimmer glides quickly across the surface of the Clarkson pool with the butterfly stroke during the 200 Individual Medley. Visiting St. Lawrence Central got a strong opening-meet performance to beat the Sandstoners 109-61.

Swimmers from St. Lawrence Central (far lane) and Potsdam are nearly stroke-for-stroke in the backstroke event.  Cheyenne Padgett and Alex Craft each captured the top spot in two events for the Larries in a 109-61 win. Craft won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Padgett swam to victory in the 200 individual medley. Potsdam was led by Ariana Frascatore with wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle races.

O.F.A. Opens With Big Win vs. Edwards-Knox 124-41


An Ogdensburg swimmer hits the pool upon a teammate's in a relay event, during the 2012 season opener against Edwards-Knox. The Blue Devils dominated in the pool during the first week's event, with a 124-41 win over the Cougars. The Devils, Canton and Massena all won opening Division I meets.

Potsdam Swims To First Win Beating Gouverneur 120-44


A Gouverneur swimmer approaches the finish line in the 200-meter breaststroke during Friday’s meet held at Clarkson University. Potsdam won its first meet of the season, improving to 1-2 overall, swimming past the Gouverneur Wildcats in a 120-44 victory in the pool. Gouverneur fell to 0-3.

Canton Deals Ogdensburg Swimmers First Loss 107-63

Swimmers from Canton and Ogdensburg are pulling hard to gain the advantage in close competition in the 100 meter butterfly event.  Canton defeated Ogdensburg 107-63 in a Division I matchup.  Angelina Domena was involved in three winning events for the Golden Bears. She won the 200 and 500 freestyle events and swam on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay propel Canton to a 2-0 record. Teammate Alyssa Clifford captured the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Canton Opens With Splash, Beating Salmon River


Swimmers from Canton and Salmon River are in locked in a close battle in the 50-meter race during Thursday's opening meet in Canton. Canton defeated a small Shamrock squad 119-27.
