A Norwood-Norfolk triple jumper takes off from the end of the running lane.  Most Valuable Field Performer, Beaver River participant Skylar Pastor from South Jefferson, topped the 300 meters. Tupper Lake had two individual winners: Samantha Ormsby in triple jump and Hannah Klossner in the high jump. Potsdam’s Maddie Drechsel won the long jump and Indian River’s Elizabeth Kolodgy tossed the best shot put.

PIERCE SETS 1500M RECORD AS CANTON REPEATS TITLE

Most Valuable Runner Laura Pierce ran for a new Section X record in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.5 in leading the Canton Golden Bears to their fourth-straight sectional championship, sprinting to 160½ points, well outdistancing the rest of the field. Pierce also won the 1,000 and 3,000 meters. and her time of 4 minutes, 43.5 seconds in the 1,500 set a Section 10 record. Canton also dashed to individual wins with Emma Collins besting the 55 meters, Lindsay Proulx winning the 55-meter hurdles and Gemma DelRossi in the 600 meters. Malone finished as runners up with 94 points. Potsdam was third at 62½ in a nine-team field.

Ogdensburg’s Chelsea Montroy fires shot put for a sixth-place finish among 19 competitors. Norwood-Norfolk’s Adrianna Colbert won the event.   South Jefferson’s Skylar Pastor, competes with Beaver River, was the only triple winner of the meet, capturing first in the 55-meter dash, 600 meters and high jump. In other girls finishes, Canton’s Katie Lapinski topped the long jump, while helping win the 4x200 relay with Carly Whiteford, Claire Olin and Emma Collins. The Bears’ Laura Pierce won the 3000 meters. Malone’s Maria Perez captured 55 hurdles, while teammate Hannah Perry was first in the 300 dash and Carrie Pomainville won the 1000 meters. CANTON BEARS FINISH 2013 SEASON AGAIN AS UNBEATENS


Canton’s Claire Bartlett leads the pack in the girls’ 1500 meters, while Beaver River's Victoria Rollin focuses on trying to over-take her. Bartlett, an eighth grader, closed out the race with a 1.1 second victory. Ellen Miller of O.F.A. was third. Canton won the meet by the closest finish of the season, just seven points over Malone, sweeping all seven weeks of the regular season.  

Massena’s Natalie LePage seeks distance in the triple jump.  Tupper Lake's Samantha Ormsby outdistanced the field at 33 feet one inch, 13 inches ahead of the nearest competition.

Gouverneur long jumper Belle Hall leaps through the air for a distance of 12 feet 9 inches during the Northern Athletic Conference Invitational.  Liz Stuttler of Clinton achieved the longest distance at 15 feet 4.5 inches.

In the girls 4x800 meter relay, Malone’s Emily Pomainville, in her first year on varsity as an eighth grader, has an slight edge on Norwood-Norfolk’s Savannah Linsky.  The Canton relay team of Gemma and Rebecca DelRossie, Paige Hamilton and Abby Hampson clocked in at 10:32.8 to win the race.  Malone finished second, Peru third and the Flyers fourth among the eight teams.

(Right) Beaver River’s Skylar Pastor, a South Jefferson student-athlete left the competition behind in the girls 300 meters, while breaking the Section X record that stood for 32 years.  She completed the race in 41.2 seconds. The previous mark was 41.46 seconds set by Malone’s Sue Hutchins in 1981. Pastor also won the long jump during Week 5 competition.

Ogdensburg's Chelsea Montroy tosses for 13-feet-6.5 inches, good for ninth place among three dozen competitors in the shot put during Section X Indoor Track and Field on Friday.  Indian River's Elizabeth Kolodgy won the event.  For Canton, Lindsay Proulx posted best in the 55-meter hurdles, Gemma DelRossi won the 600, Rebecca DelRossi was tops in the 1,000 meters and Laura Pierce delivered first in the 3,000.  Beaver River’s Skylar Pastor (from South Jefferson) won three events, claiming top spot in the 300 meters, long jump and high jump. For Malone, Emma Pomainville won the 1500 meters.  Tupper Lake’s Samantha Ormsby won the triple jump.

Canton's Emma Collins stretches on the final the final stride at the finish line to edge out Tupper Lake's Maddie Fortier in the second heat of the girls 55-meter dash.  Potsdam's Maddie Dreschel won the event, followed by Collins, Fortier and Indian River's Taylor Baynham, all just two-tenths of a second behind.

Runners from Malone and Canton exchange batons for the second leg of the girls 4x800 meter relay. The Canton team of Laura Pierce, Gemma DelRossie, Paige Hamilton and Abby Hampton outran second-place Malone by 14.6 seconds to win the event. Canton also won the meet in Week #3. Malone 2nd.

Canton Collects Third Track & Field WIN IN A ROW


An Ogdensburg competitor shoots for distance in the girls long jump during Week #3 of the Section X Track and Field events at St. Lawrence University. Three sophomores topped the event, led by Potsdam's Maddie Dreschel at 14 feet 11 inches, besting Malone's Hannah Perry by four inches. Canton's Morgan Rosier was third at 13 feet 6 inches, among 18 competitors in the event. Dreshel also won the 55-meter dash and the long jump. Potsdam won the 4x200 meter relay. Rosier also won the triple jump. Canton won the 4x400 meter relay with Lindsay Proulx atop the 55-meter hurdles, Rebecca DelRossie best in the 1500 meters, Laura Pierce first in the 3000 meters and Gemma DelRossie first in the 600 meters. South Jefferson’s Skylar Pastor snagged wins in the 300 meters and the high jump. Malone’s Rebekkah won by two seconds in the 1000 meters. An Indian River competitor gets ready to fire the rock in the shot put event during the season opener for Section X Girls Indoor Track and Field.  Indian River’s Elizabeth Kolodgy won the event at 28 feet 7 inches, while Malone's Annie Sharlow placed second nearly four feet shorter.  Malone's Maggie Albu placed third.  Among some of the other winners:  Canton’s Lindsay Proulx won the girls 55-meter hurdles. Potsdam’s Maddie Dreschel captured first in the long jump. Potsdam’s Marie Amell topped the finalists in the 1500-meter run. Malone won the 3200 meter run. Canton at 149 points won the overall team total.  Malone placed second at 97 point. Potsdam was third at 70.
