Gouverneur Wins Section X Championship


Gouverneur Wildcats won the 2009 Section X Girls Track Championship with an undefeated season; their first title since 1985.

GOUVERNEUR FINISH UNBEATEN SEASON CLAIMING SECTION X TITLE


Gouverneur's Jenn Brown and Lindsay McCormick finished in first and second place respectively in the girls 3000 meter race to help anchor the Wildcats team victory in the 2009 Section X Girls Track and Field Championship.  Gouverneur edged second-place Malone 120-117 to win the title.  Tupper Lake was third at 87.  (Photos by Mike Webb & Bob LaRue)

Canton's Maggie Lapinksi was named the Girls Most Valuable Athlete at the meet, winning three individual events, the 400 and 800 meters, long jump and a member of a winning relay.

Norwood-Norfolk's Katherine Catimon in the girls high jump, won by Jessica Shumway of Potsdam.  Lindsay Tolman of Ogdensburg finished second in the event.

N-N FLYERS SWEEP CANTON & SALMON RIVER FOR 4TH PLACE


Competitors from Canton, Norwood-Norfolk and Salmon River in the girls 1500-meter race.  Canton's Maggie Lapinski won the event and the 200 meters.  The N-N Flyers swept Canton 159-136 and the Shamrocks 210-94.  Canton beat Salmon 162-116 to round out the tri-meet.  (Bob LaRue photo)  Meet Gallery

In the high jump competition, Salmon River took two of the first three positions.  Norwood-Norfolk swept all three relay events to anchor the win.  Spaulding of Salmon River won the 100 hurdles.  N-N's Caskinette of won the 100-meter dash and shot put, while teammate Victoria Hall won the 3000 meters.
 

TUPPER LAKE CLINCHES SECOND PLACE WITH 181-132 WIN OVER O.F.A.


Ogdensburg’s Lindsay Drummond soars out into the lead and wins the girls 100 meter hurdles.  Drummond won the event, but placed third behind Kaila Kenyon of Tupper Lake in the 400-meter hurdles.  However, the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks took home a 181-132 win over Ogdensburg to close out the regular season at 9-1 and in second place.  O.F.A. fell to 3-7.

SALMON RIVER EARNS SECOND WIN BEATING CLIFTON-FINE 162-118


A tight race for the lead between Clifton-Fine and Salmon River runners in the girls 800-meters at Fort Covington on Monday.  Salmon River gained its second meet win of the season with a 162-118 win over the Clifton-Fine Eagles.

LOWVILLE WINS 86TH RUNNING OF VANDUSEN INVITATIONAL

Canton's Maggie Lapinski was was naked Outstanding Female Athlete, while Gouverneur's Leslie Turner, Saranac Lake's Alexis Smith and Madrid-Waddington's Katie Marcellus shared Outstanding Weight-Woman Awards and Leslie Tolman won the Outstanding Female Jumper.
 

POTSDAM SQUEEZES OUT 164-155 WIN VS. BLUE DEVILS; BALL WINS THREE


A tight race between hurdlers from Potsdam and Ogdensburg during the 100-meter hurdles competition. O.F.A.'s Lindsay Drummond won the event and Potsdam's Katharine Phelan was second. Potsdam held on to squeeze out a 164-155 victory over the Blue Devils.  Potsdam's Madelyn Ball won the 1500 and 3000-meter races and ran on the winning 3200 relay team, while Olivia Lee also took the top slot in three events and Veronica Sapp topped two events to lead Potsdam.

A Potsdam athlete leaps and clears the bar in the high jump competition at Ogdensburg.  To lead the Blue Devils, Drummond also won the long jump and placed third in the triple jump.  Nicole Warner won the 200 meters and was third in the long jump. Small won the 100-meter sprint and Alana Ashley captured the triple jump.

NORWOOD-NORFOLK OPENS SEASON TOPPING SANDSTONERS 179-125


A tight race in the 100-meter hurdles event in an opening day meet between Potsdam and Norwood-Norfolk.  The Flyers spoiled Potsdam's home opener on the new artificial turf field, collecting a 179-125 win at Potsdam on Wednesday.

A very close finish in the girls 100-meter finals between Smith from Gouverneur who won the event , with close finishes from Canton, Norwood-Norfolk, Gouverneur and Tupper Lake.  Led by event wins by Amanda and Ashley Gadway and Bridget Gravel, Malone was the top team at the Madrid-Waddington Invitational, with Gouverneur placing second, Canton third and Tupper Lake in fourth place.  (Eric Foote photo)  Meet Gallery

A large and tightly-bunched group of runners from 12 teams compete on the backstretch during the 3000-meter event at Madrid-Waddington.  Brown of Gouverneur won the event with a time of 11:24.1. while Studlack of Malone finished second.  Malone won only three events, but racked up team points with six second-place finishes and three third-place spots,

IN THE STRETCH RUN 168-145


 Norwood-Norfolk's Victoria Hall gets the early lead and laps all the competition in the girls 3000-meter race.  Hall set the pace at 11:46. She also captured the 800-meter hurdles.  Norwood-Norfolk went on to defeat Ogdensburg 168-145.  The Flyers improved to 3-1, while the Blue Devils dropped to 2-4 on the season.   Ogdensburg's Lindsay Drummond elevates with plenty of clearance at four-feet-eight in the high-jump competition.  Drummond finished second to Lindsey Tolman of O.F.A.  Drummond also won the 100-meter hurdles event.

A pair of handoffs in the 400-meter relay.  The team of Levison, Harris, Catimon and Caskinette won the race for the Flyers.  Levison also won the 400- and 800- meter individual races.
