MALONE ELIMINATED IN STATE OPENING ROUND IN SWEEP

HUDSON FALLS 3, MALONE 0
Hudson Falls put an end to the Malone Huskies season with a three-set sweep, 25-8, 25-7 and 25-5 in the New York State Class B regional semifinal. Hudson Falls dominated the opening points in all three sets, capturing the first seven points of the set and building 12-3 and 15-2 leads in the next two sets. The Tigers, representing Section II, will advance to the regional final against Section VII’s Beekmantown for the right to advance to the state semifinal in Glens Falls. Malone wrapped up its season at 7-10 overall.

MASSENA CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH LOSS IN STATE OPENER

BURNT HILLS 3, MASSENA 0
The Massena Red Raiders closed out their 2014 campaign in the first round of the New York State Class A playoffs with a three-set loss to Section II champion Burnt Hills, 25-9, 25-5 and 25-16. Massena opened with a 4-1 lead in the first set, but that was their biggest lead of the night. The Spartans bounced back with 13-2 and 11-3 runs to finish the first set. Massena cut an early to 6-4 in the third set, before finally bowing out. The Raiders wrapped up their season at 14-3, which included winning the Section X overall championship.

Massena hands chateaugay first loss to win overall

Chateaugay’s Kim Reville (5) spikes the ball through the block attempt of Massena’s Kyrsha Angus (31) to earn a point for the Bulldogs.  After the teams split the first two sets 25-21, 18-25, Massena outlasted Chateaugay 25-19, 25-17 to win the title. Note: the semifinal and championship matches do not count toward the teams’ overall records. Tatum Lafrance again powered Massena’s attack with nine kills and 10 assists. Kyrsha Angus added 14 points and seven kills, while Krista Loran pitched in 12 points and eight kills. Chateaugay was led by Kendra King’s 10 points and Bailey Dowd’s eight  points.
 

MASSENA 2, OFA 1
Tatum Lafrance led Massena’s surge from a 25-22 first-set loss to sweep the final two sets, 25-16 and 15-9 in a semifinal victory over the Ogdensburg Blue Devils. LaFrance issued 10 service points and provided 22 assists. Sabrina Sunday chipped in eight kills and four points. Sky Hoover contributed six digs and four kills for O.F.A..

CHATEAUGAY 2, MALONE 0

Chateaugay jumped to big leads and dominated Malone in both sets 25-9 and 25-11 in the semifinal round. For Malone, Jenna Broeker led the way with three service points and three kills.  All four teams now move on to state play.

The Ogdensburg Blue Devils saw their title season come to an end in the opening round of the New York State Class C playoffs in a 3-0 sweep to Broadalbin-Perth 25-12, 25-6 and 25-14. O.F.A. concludes its 2014 campaign at 15-5 overall.

Ogdensburg captures class c championship 3-0

Salmon River’s Mara Lazore (25) sends the ball over Ogdensburg defender Brooke Richardson (9) to score a point in the first set for the Shamrocks. Ogdensburg’s Emma Hart smacked 14 service points and pounded seven kills to pace top-seeded Ogdensburg to a three-set sweep of the Salmon River Shamrocks in the Section X Class C championship. After a tight 27-25 first set, the Shamrocks buckled to the Blue Devils 25-13 and 25-11. Sky Hoover added seven points and 10 kills, while Taylor Perry contributed 16 assists for O.F.A. Ogdensburg faces Massena on Monday for the Section X overall semifinals to be held at Norwood-Norfolk. Salmon River closed out its productive season at 14-5 overall.  Match Gallery

SALMON RIVER, OGDENSBURG SWEEP TO SEMIFINAL WINS

The Ogdensburg Blue Devils won their 12th match in a row in sweeping the Canton Golden Bears from the playoffs, 25-13, 25-17, and 25-13 in the Section X Cass C semifinals. For O.F.A., Jennie Dalton served up 12 points and 11 aces, while Emma Hart chipped in 12 points and five kills. Sky Hoover added seven service points and five aces. The Blue Devils advance to face Salmon River in the Class C championship on Wednesday. Canton, which closed out its season at 3-14 overall, was led by Tianna Whitmarsh with five points and four digs.

SALMON RIVER 3, POTSDAM 0
The Salmon River Shamrocks rolled past the Potsdam Sandstoners in straight sets – 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20 – in the Section X Class B semi finals. Brittany Brooks led the Shamrocks with 16 service points, including six aces and a team-best seven kills. Raven Oakes tallied six points and chipped in 13 assists. Fawn Jacobs added nine points, while Mara Lazore contributed seven points. Salmon River will face Ogdensburg for the Class C championship on Wednesday. Potsdam, which closed out its season at 9-8, was led by Elna Daby who tallied seven points, and Taylor Murray and Samantha Heer who pitched in six points each.

Chateaugay’s Kim Reville (5) sends the ball past Madrid-Waddington’s Sophia Roome (24) and Jennifer King (20) to score a point for the Bulldogs in the opening set.  Chateaugay continued its undefeated run to the Section X Class D championship with a dominating three-set sweep of second-seeded Madrid-Waddington, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-18. The Bulldogs were led by Shelby Yanulavich who posted 11 points and four aces in the championship match. Chateaugay will advance to the Section X overall semifinals on Monday against the Malone Huskies. Madrid-Waddington finished its season at 10-7.

 


CHATEAUGAY ROLLS TO 3-0 WIN OVER B-M IN SEMIFINALS

CHATEAUGAY 1-5 IN STATE SEMIFINAL POOL
The Chateaugay Bulldogs closed out their 2014 campaign in a tie for third place in the New York State Class D Final Four pool round. The four remaining teams play round robin, all facing each other for two sets, with the top two teams rematched for the state title. In the opening match, Chateaugay lost to Section I’s Haldane 25-11 and 25-9. In the second match, Section VI Champion Portville beat Chateaugay 25-12 and 25-9. In the final matchup, Bulldogs then faced Harpursville with both teams tied at 0-4. Chateaugay captured the first set 25-21 to gain at least a share of third place. Harpursville came back to win 25-12 in the final match to also earn a share of third place with the Bulldogs. Portville (6-0) and Haldane (4-2) advanced to the state championship final.

CHATEAUGAY BEATS GALWAY IN STELLER 3-0 STATE MATCH

“We played our best game of the season and won 3-0 over a very good team.” That was the message from Chateaugay volleyball coach Chris Reynolds after his team’s sweep of Section II Champion Galway in the opening round of the New York State Class D playoffs. The Bulldogs won 25-18, 25-13, 25-10. Chateaugay will trek the short route to Saranac Central to face Section VII champion Lake Placid in the quarterfinal matchup.

Madrid-Waddington’s Jennifer King (20) and a Tupper Lake attacker battle over possession of the ball right above the net.  The Yellow Jackets swept to a three-set semifinal victory over the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-14 to advance and face Chateaugay in the Section X Class D title game on Wednesday. Jen King led the Jackets with eight points, two aces, six kills and two blocks. Simone Doelger added seven service points, while Ashley Curran chipped in 10 points and four kills. Alyssa Gagnon on served up nine points. Tupper Lake, which closed out its season at 5-14, was led by Nicki Jessie who scored eight points and contributed five kills, while Alexis Cassel offered 20 assists and six points.

The undefeated and top-seeded Chateaugay Bulldogs cruised to a 25-7, 25-5, 25-16 victory over the Brushton-Moira Panthers in the Section X Class D semifinals. Caitlin Miller paced the Bulldogs with 10 service points and eight kills. Kim Reville and Kylie Henley both chipped in 10 service points each while leading the Bulldogs to the championship game against Madrid-Waddington on Wednesday. Erin Ashline also posted seven kills. Brushton-Moira polished off its season at 5-13.
