The Salmon River Shamrocks won the overall  Section X Volleyball Championship 3-1 over Massena.  After Massena claimed the first set 25-19, Salmon River won three hotly-contested sets 26-24 in the pivotal second set, then 25-18 and 25-20.  Salmon River finished undefeated at 19-0 for the season and will be representing Section X in the Class C semi-regional game next Thursday at Gloversville High School beginning at 4:00 p.m.   (Eric Foote photo)  Meet Gallery

SHAMROCKS REBOUND TO WIN OVERALL VOLLEYBALL TITLE


The Salmon River Shamrocks won the overall  Section X Volleyball Championship 3-1 over Massena.  After Massena claimed the first set 25-19, Salmon River won three hotly-contested sets 26-24 in the pivotal second set, then 25-18 and 25-20.  For Salmon River, Kara Marshall led the way with 12 service points and 3 assists, while Nicole Smoke added 12 service points, 8 kills and 9 assists.  Meet Gallery

 Salmon River's Kasennakohe David produced 11 service points, 3 aces and 5 kills.  Kiesha Cook added 9 service points, 4 aces and 7 kills, while Jackie Benedict finished with 7 service points and 6 kills; and  Leslee Loran added 10 kills and 4 assists.  Massena was led by Daenna Conger with 11 service points and two aces.  Nina Benedict had 14 kills.  Demi White racked up 16 assists, five points, seven kills and three aces to pace the Red Raiders.  (Eric Foote photo)

After dropping the first two sets, Chateaugay battled back with stronger play at the net and captured the next two sets, before falling in the fifth and decisive set.  For Massena, Demi White nailed 22 points, seven aces and six kills.  Marissa Truax dished 23 assists and 10 points.  For Chateaugay, Paige English offered 16 assists, while Megan Barnes netted 16 kills and Kaitlyn Legacy contributed eight kills.  Chateaugay moves on to State Class D playoffs, while Massena plays Salmon River for the 2011 Overall Section X Championship.

Massena won the first two sets, but Chateaugay battled back to win the next two sets to tie 2-2. The Massena Red Raiders claimed the Section X Class B Championship with a 3-0 sweep of the Malone Huskies. Massena got stronger as the match continued, with margins progressing from 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13. Christa Loran led the Red Raiders with 18 points, while Janessa Benedict contributed 10 kills and five blocks. Marissa Truax distributed 15 helpers. Tristan Thomas added six points and seven kills. #3 OGDENSBURG RALLIES TO OUST # POTSDAM IN 5 SETS


Potsdam’s Bridget Parks (17) and Katie Burke (2) go up for a block on the Ogdensburg spike but the ball goes into the top of the net. After Potsdam rolled to 25-9 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets, O.F.A. squeezed out 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23 wins for a 3-2 victory in the Section X Class C semifinals.

Potsdam’s Sarah Vivlamore (1) goes up for a battle at the net against an Ogdensburg defender.  Ogdensburg defeated Potsdam 3-2 in the Section X Class B semifinals.  Vivlamore finished with 11 points, two aces, 35 sets, five assists, three kills and a block.  Victoria Mondragon added 22 points four aces and two kills. Canton’s Gabbie Hopkins-Betters (15) hammers the ball over the attempted block of a Gouverneur player at the net.  Hopkins-Betters had 13 kills, while Tara Facey chipped in 16 points served, 10 assists and two kills.  Canton advances to play Salmon River in the semifinals.  Gouverneur finished 4-12.

SALMON RIVER POUNDS O.F.A. TO BE CLASS C CHAMPIONS


Salmon River’s Leslee Loran (17) blocks a tip at the net during the Section X Class C Championship match at SUNY Canton. Loran dished up 6 service points and 3 kills. The Salmon River Shamrocks rolled to a swift 3-0 win over the Ogdensburg Blue Devils in the Section X Class C championship game.

The Blue Devils get a well-placed and well-timed set and spike. The Shamrocks swept in three sets 25-9, 25-12 and 25-18. Kasennakohe David led the Shamrocks with 26 service points and 6 aces. Nicole Smoke 14 service point, 3 aces, 10 assists and 5 kills. Kiesha Cook added 7 service points and 8 kills, while Salmon River improved to 18-0 overall. Ogdensburg closed out their season at 12-6 overall.

#1 SALMON RIVER ELIMINATES CANTON IN THREE-SET SWEEP


Salmon River’s Kasennakohe David (44) spikes the ball over the heads of Canton’s Tara Facey (4) and Isreal Tyler (11) who went up to block the incoming ball. David dealt 6 service points, 2 aces and 5 kills. Kiesha Cook led the Shamrocks with 16 service points, 5 aces, 3 kills and 3 assists in the 3-0 sweep.

Canton’s Gabby Hopkins-Betters (15) goes up to block a shot and return the shot from Salmon River's Cassandra Boardway.  Salmon River dominated early and defeated Canton in three straight sets 25-5, 25-8 and 25-17.  Hopkins-Betters contributed four service points, three kills and assist and a block for the Golden Bears.  Salmon River's Nicole Smoke slammed 15 service points and 5 aces, along with 3 kills and 6 assists.

Madrid-Waddington's Jennifer King (16) attempts to block the joust from Brushton-Moira's Tanya Menke (5) that just barely cleared the tape at the top of the net.  The ball fell for a point for the Panthers.  The Yellow Jackets captured the first set 25-17 and led 8-0 to start the second set.  But Brushton-Moira came on strong to win the second set 25-19 and the next two sets 25-22 and 25-13 to win the Section X Class D Play-In Game. TUPPER LAKE OUSTS E-K COUGARS FROM PLAYOFFS 3-0

In three very close sets, the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks dealt the Edwards-Knox Cougars a 3-0 season-ending sweep in the Section X Class D semifinals.  Tupper beat E-K 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.  Jessica Friend led the Lumberjacks scorers with nine points, three aces, one dig and two kills.  Hukia Bradley added six points, three aces, two digs and three kills, while Sara Amell contributed two points, one aces, 10 assists and one kill.  Tupper Lake advances to play Chateaugay for the Class D title. Tupper Lake closes out the season at 6-11 overall.

TOP-SEEDED CHATEAUGAY REPEATS AS CLASS D CHAMP


Chateaugay’s Carolyn Stumpf (11) gets a good placement, then tips the ball away from Tupper Lake defenders’ attempts to block the ball. The top-seeded Chateaugay Bulldogs repeated as Section X Class D Champions with a 3-0 sweep over the second-seeded Lumberjacks.  Game Gallery

Brushton-Moira's Katie Lavarnway (12) leaps in an attempt to block the shot at the net against the Chateaugay Bulldogs in Wednesday's Section X Class D volleyball playoffs. Chateaugay swept away the Panthers in a sweep 25-3, 25-13 and 25-9. Caroline Stumpf won 15 points and dished five assists.
