MASSENA EDGES CANTON 3-2

The Red Raiders advanced to the championship final with a 3-0 sweep of Chateaugay, while Canton rolled past Ogdensburg by the same 3-0 score (25-14, 26-24, 25-19). Massena took the first two sets of the final match 25-13, 25-17.  Canton bounced back to tie in the next two sets with identical scores of 25-14.  Massena won the fifth and final set 25-16 for the Section X overall title.  For Canton, Gretchen Warner tallied 13 kills, two points and one block.  Sydney Lorenc chipped in five kills, three blocks, 10 points and two aces.  Kelsea Whittier served up 16 assists.  Garrby Rauth collected 13 digs, three points and an ace.  Katie Bennett had 12 points.  Massena individual stats were not immediately available.

2019 PATTY BALDWIN AWARD:  RYLIE GRAY
Before the final match, Salmon River's Rylie Gray won the Patty Baldwin Award for most outstanding volleyball player, academics and overall achievements.  The runners-up included Jackie Butler of Potsdam, Ogdensburg's Rosie Jenault, and Kelsie Whitter of Canton.

SALMON RIVER TOPS MALONE
3-1 IN CLASS B SEMIFINAL

Malone’s Mackenzie Lane (15) blocks a spike from Salmon River's Rylie Gray (5).  Salmon River beat Malone in three hotly-contested sets 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, before dominating the fourth set 25-12. Salmon River was led by Kayla Cunningham with 13 service points, Kania Swamp with 10 service points and five kills and Rylie Gray nine service points and kills. Kendall Jock contributed eight service points and six kills, Ryanna Bero added night service points and 14 assists, Halle Lazore pitched in six assists and Tyana Benedict delivered10 kills. Salmon River moves on to face top-seeded Ogdensburg for the class title. Malone’s season ends at 7-9.

FOUR-PEAT OGDENSBURG TIPS SALMON RIVER FOR "B" TITLE

Salmon River hitter Kania Swamp (16) attempts a spike in front of Ogdensburg’s Gabrielle Morley (16).  O.F.A. pulled away with wins in the first two sets 25-16 and 25-14, before Salmon River grabbed a 25-19 win in the third set. The Devils captured the four-peat with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. Emily Ferrand led the Blue Devils with 17 points and12 kills. Rose Renault contributed 12 kills and three blocks, while Celia Henry posted six points, five kills, five digs and seven assists. For Salmon River, Kayla Cunningham led the way with eight service points, Kendall Jock with seven service points, while Ryanna Bero added five service points and two assists. Kania Swamp contributed five kills, while Halle Lazore dished out four assists. OFA advances to the Section X overall semifinal vs. Class C Canton, while Salmon River ended its season at 11-6 overall.

CHATEAUGAY, TUPPER LAKE TO PLAY FOR 2019 CLASS D TITLE

Tupper Lake earned a berth in the Section Class D final with a 3-0 sweep of Madrid-Waddington, in three close sets 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19. The Lady Jacks were led by Cadence Tyo with 48 sets, 35 assists, three points, three digs, two kills, two blocks and one ace. Chelsea Locke also had big numbers with 32 sets and 28 assists, along with six points and two aces. Sierah LaValley contributed 12 points, seven aces, nine kills, three blocks and seven digs. The Yellow Jackets posted a 3-12 final overall record this season.

CHATEAUGAY 3, BRUSHTON-MOIRA 0
Chateaugay is headed back to the Section X Class D title game, after shutting out Brushton-Moira in the semifinal. The Bulldogs swept the Panthers in three sets 25-13, 25-11 and 25-17 in advancing to face Tupper Lake in the final. Chateaugay scoring information was not immediately available. For B-M, Brynn LaPage led the way with six service points and two kills, while Destiny Seller contributed five kills and one assist. Molly Clark issued three service points, one ace and two assists. The Panthers closed out the 2019 campaign at 0-16.

Chateaugay’s Alexis Monette (8) blocks a spike from Tupper Lake’s Sierah LaValley (8). The top-seeded Bulldogs aced the #2-seeded Tupper Lake Lumberjacks in straight sets 25-20, 25-11, 25-13. Alexis Monette led the Bulldogs with 16 points, 18 assists, five aces and two kills. Chloe Boyea provided 16 assists, five points, one ace and one kill. Ayana Adams provided 20 kills, five points and two aces. The Bulldogs advance to the Section X overall semifinal round against Class A Massena. Tupper Lake folded its season at 5-12 overall.

 A stretching spike from the Golden Bears' Sydney Lorenc (12) sails under a Governeur defender for another point in the match to extend Canton's first-set lead to 19-5.  The second-seeded Canton Lady Bears swept the #3 Gouverneur Wildcats in three sets to win the Section X Class C semifinal game. Canton won 25-6, 25-16 and 25-11 to advance to play top-seeded Potsdam for the class title. Canton was led by Abby Todd with 10 points and one ace; Sydney Lorenc with five points, three aces and two kills; Gretchen Warner with four aces and one point, and Chelsea Whittier with seven assists and two digs. Gouverneur closed out its 2019 campaign with a 1-14 overall record.

Canton Central’s Jilly DiSalvo (10) tips the ball over the head of Potsdam’s Abygail Fawcett (9). Canton won the first two sets 25-12 and 25-20, but Potsdam rallied to tie with close wins of 25-21 and 25-23. Canton won the final set 25-18. The Golden Bears were led by Gretchen Warner with 19 kills, seven points and one ace. Jilly DiSalvo registered 13 kills and blocks, while Chelsea dished out 38 assists.  Canton advances to state play and the Section X overall semifinals to face Class B champion Ogdensburg. Potsdam finished its season at 12-3 overall.
